Best Seafood in Dallas?
This article here is for all the seafood lovers out there.
Especially the ones from New Orleans that have migrated to Dallas and have
struggled for years to get their seafood fix. Everybody knows that good boiled seafood is
serious business to people from Louisiana.
Since moving to Dallas 10 years ago I had been on a relentless search to
find some authentic Cajun seafood and not the “dry rub” crawfish that a few
Cajun franchises (that shall remain nameless) sell. I wanted crawfish, juicy, in a plastic bag, inside of a paper bag. But Dallas failed me, or so I thought. I’m pretty sure that I was here for a good 4-5 years before I found
an acceptable seafood spot. It’s called The Boiling Crab. I patronized them for
years. Stood in a line for hours waiting outside for crawfish and I was never
disappointed. In fact, I was pleased,
and sang their praises to all who would listen. And to be quite honest I would
still recommend them. But I am happy to report that I’ve been introduced to a
new spot and I think I've found a new favorite. I almost don’t want to share the details because
I don’t want it to turn into the Boiling Crab, but sharing is caring so here
goes.
I felt like I had been teleported back to New Orleans from the
first bite. I ordered a pound of shrimp first, which arrived in a pretty bowl. My flavor options were mild, medium, spicy and
extra spicy. Naturally, I went for the spicy. I was not ready for that HEAT
though. I promise, it got me together. I walked in with allergy issues but was
promptly delivert by the time I was done with the bowl. I even had to call the
waiter over for a glass of ice water because apparently I’m a lightweight and
I can’t handle spice anymore. Now, the
shrimp was not so spicy that it was offensive. There was plenty of flavor, but
lacked nothing in the spice department. I can only imagine what would have
happened if I ordered the extra spicy. After I recovered from spice shock, I
ordered a pound of crawfish. Medium this time, because you don’t have to tell
me twice. The sauce was perfection. Very
buttery, yet flavorful and much thinner than shrimp sauce but with the right
amount of punch. It took me less time to
devour the crawfish because the sauce was much more palatable. I was satiated
and could have went for another serving but I decided to respect my
budget. My favorite part of the whole
restaurant was that they had options with regard to their menu. There were pasta dishes, po-boys, etouffee and even gumbo. You call
it, they had it. Unfortunately, I was not able to try any of that being that it
was my first visit. I am now mentally scheduling my next visit so I will keep you
posted on what all of the other cajun dishes taste like.
